Maybe you've noticed green growth on the headstone, water stains settling into the granite, or the monument starting to lean. We handle all of it. Our methods are safe for the stone and the engraving. We work at cemeteries in Columbus, Westerville, Delaware, Grove City, and the surrounding areas in Ohio.
A headstone that's been out in the weather for years picks up more than dust. Soil splatter, algae, lichen, mineral deposits from rain, and pollution all leave their mark, even on hard granite.
We use stone-safe cleaning methods. We use cleaning solutions and techniques that work on granite, marble, limestone, and other stone types without causing harm.
After cleaning, the lettering is sharp and readable again, and the original color of the stone comes back.
Sometimes cleaning isn't enough. Restoration covers the structural and cosmetic damage that builds up over the years.
If the memorial has shifted or sunk, we re-level it. If inscriptions are faded or worn, we can re-letter them, matching the original font and depth. Chips and cracks, common in older stones, can be repaired. And if the surface has gone dull from weathering, we can re-polish it.
Every restoration is different. We assess what's needed, discuss options and costs with you, and then do the work. We respect the original design and make sure the repair holds up.
Not sure if the memorial needs work? Here are the common signs.
Dark Staining or Discoloration. Black streaks, brown stains, or uneven coloring usually mean mineral deposits, algae, or pollution buildup. They darken over time.
Visible Biological Growth. Green, black, or orange patches (moss, lichen, or algae) mean moisture is getting trapped. Beyond looking bad, this can actually damage the stone over time.
Faded or Hard-to-Read Lettering. If the name or inscription is getting hard to read, the engraving may be worn or darkened by mineral deposits. Cleaning or re-lettering can fix it.
Monument Leaning or Sinking. A tilting or sinking headstone is a safety concern. It needs to be re-leveled.
Chips, Cracks, or Broken Edges. Weather, ground movement, and age take a toll. Larger cracks or missing pieces should be repaired before they get worse.
Cleaning costs depend on the size of the memorial and how much buildup there is. Restoration depends on the work: re-leveling costs less than re-lettering or crack repair. We provide an estimate after assessing the memorial.
No. We don't use inappropriate chemicals, or abrasive techniques. Our methods are chosen specifically to be safe for the stone and lettering. We've been doing this since 1936.
In Central Ohio, every 5 to 10 years is a good rule of thumb to prevent heavy buildup. Some families prefer more frequent cleaning. We can help you figure out what makes sense for your situation.
